Dear Gary,

Thank you for letting us know the legal/coding issues around the Nob Hill Shopping Center. I think that we can all work under the assumption that the owner will not be making any illegal changes. However, although legal, the changes that he wants to make are (in many of our opinions) detrimental to the neighborhood from multiple standpoints ranging from creating a “food desert” to violating the historic spirit (not law) of the property. Although the civic organizations such as Nob Hill Main Street, the Neighborhood Association etc., don’t have the legal authority to dictate what owners do with their property, they can provide a collective voice and thus be more persuasive. We can see from the Maverick Gas Station issue that using pre-existing organizations, like neighborhood associations, are efficient ways to mobilize people.

I will try and reach out to Nob Hill Main Street to see if there is any interest in this issue.

Shoshana

Actions relative to parking management or dealings with a tenant generally fall in that category. The only tool an individual or neighborhood association has there is goodwill. In that vein, we have reached out to Heritage Hotels and its owner Jim Long to get acquainted. We have invited them to join our email list if they haven't already.

Remodeling addressed by those standards would probably have to be approved administratively (by CABQ Planning staff) or by the Landmarks Commission. See the IDO at Interactive Integrated Development Ordinance | <https://abq-zone.com/>
