As it does with every election, the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico offers the public a wealth of information about candidates and ballot questions. This all-volunteer nonpartisan organization is laser focused on educating voters so that they can make informed choices.
New Mexico's June 2 primary election is no exception. I encourage neighbors to explore the LWVCNM website: https://www.lwvcnm.org/
New this primary election is the opportunity for DTS (decline to state) - commonly called independent - voters to make their voices heard before the November general election. A new law, Semi-Open Primaries, now allows independent and DTS voters to vote in the primary. All these voters have to do is request a Democratic or Republican ballot at their polling place, including absentee ballots. These voters do not have to change their registration status or party affiliation in order to vote in the primary.
Please take some time to educate yourself by visiting the LWVCNM website: https://www.lwvcnm.org/. You'll find:
* the 2026 Primary Election Voter Guide
* more information about Semi-Open Primaries
* a link to your sample ballot
* and, my favorite, a link to the YouTube recording of the April 28 gubernatorial candidate forum sponsored and moderated by the LWVCNM - all 5 candidates on the primary ballots appeared and answered questions from the public.
Please vote!
Mary
