Thank you, Flora, for taking the lead on this matter. Thanks to all neighbors involved.

On Monday I talked with Debra Lopez, NM Alcohol and Gaming Division, (505)476-4551. She told me that this is a transfer of ownership. Therefore, it will have a mandatory hearing by CABQ. I think that means the CABQ Liquor Hearing Officer. She said that since this is a transfer of ownership the bar is high for disapproval (disapproval is hard to get). It’s on a par with a revocation; also hard to get. When I get a date on that I will place the item on the agenda for a regular Nob Hill Neighborhood Association board meeting so we can have a community discussion and develop an association action.

In the meantime, and all the time, I encourage every neighbor to make your positions known to your association and public officials. Also, hearing officials give a lot of weight to police calls for service. So if you witness situations related to alcohol sales at this location that warrant it please call 242-COPS or, if an emergency, 911.

Kind regards, Gary Eyster, President NHNA

Yes, this would be an issue for the neighborhood watch. The liquor industry is tough with strong lobby in Santa Fe and lawyers.  But we still win when there is plenty of documented issues.  The first time the liquor license was issued several years ago only two neighbors showed up to protest or write to the hearing officer.  We lost and now we see what we got stuck with.  This is our chance but only if we have plenty of people on board.

These letters may buy us some time until the hearing.  This may also give us more time for Nob Hill NH Association to get on board but again the Board of Directors need help. We will have to do the grunt work.

Flora, thank you so much for all you do. I am blessed to have people like you as my neighbor. Is this an issue that neighborhood watch can impact? I just sent an email to her. I got off work late tonight.

Hello, everyone.

This weekend I noticed a white sign posted at the local 7-11 Store. Word has it that the request is for a liquor license transfer to another owner.  This may be our chance to stop the transfer.

Sorry for the short notice but I had to wait until Monday to call Santa Fe and the City of Alb. for more info.  Long, long story short.  City of Alb. as of today, 2/12 has not received any info regarding this request.  The employee who normally handles these requests is out of the office but someone will be researching this today.

The deadline to contact the Alcohol and Gaming Division in Santa Fe is TODAY.   I did get the  FAX and email contact info for Santa Fe since it is too late to write letters.

I also called APD to ask for stats showing the calls to that location.  This should be forthcoming in the future.  If we want to start the process for stopping the transfer for this liquor license, please contact the following person below today. This will buy us some time until the hearing.  There have been problems at this location.  Just explain briefly why this location should no longer be granted a liquor license.

Thanks,

Flora
