Fellow Albuquerque residents,
Today, I declared a local public health emergency due to the novel coronavirus, joining dozens of states and local governments, including the City of Rio Rancho and Bernalillo County, to dedicate additional resources for our response to an outbreak that the World Health Organization has formally designated as a global pandemic.

This emergency declaration allows the City to allocate funds for the coronavirus response and request additional resources from the state and federal government. This declaration does not:
• Limit the sale or transfer of firearms
• Prohibit the sale of liquor
• Close streets
• Declare a curfew
Yesterday, we convened a series of virtual meetings with public safety officials, business leaders and the Volunteers Advisory Board to discuss the impacts on this public health emergency on Albuquerque.
The best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 is to practice proactive social distancing. it is crucial that people avoid large gatherings, stay home if possible, and order food from restaurants to-go.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the flu, with fever, coughing, and trouble breathing. The City is urging those who believe they are experiencing symptoms to call the New Mexico Department of Health hotline at 1-855-600-3453.
The latest information on City facilities, programs and events will be continuously updated on our website.
We are a strong and resilient community and I know that we will get through this challenge together, as One Albuquerque.
Mayor Tim Keller

Major Utilities Update on COVID-19
Water Authority Response to Covid-19 Public Health Emergency
As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) public health emergency evolves, the Water Authority wishes to assure customers that it has contingency staffing plans in place to ensure continuity of water and sewer service.
Furthermore, the utility is taking the following steps in the interest of public health:
-
Disconnections for non-payment will be suspended until further notice
-
Those personnel who are able will be required to work remotely until further notice
-
In-person payment locations at One Civic Plaza (5th and Marquette), our West Side office (4700 Irving Blvd. NW) and Plaza Del Sol (600 2nd St. SW) will remain staffed and open, with “social distancing” measures in place. However, the Water Authority asks that customers avoid in-person visits if at all possible and make payments by mail, over the telephone by calling 842-WATR (9287), or via our online payment system (http://www.abcwua.org/pay_water_bill.aspx)
