[NMCCSC] Details: Red River Overnight Car trip to ski Enchanted Forest on Sat, 2/23-24/2019

Hi everyone,
*Red River Week-end of Feb 23-24, 2019, is open to everyone in the Ski club
to join in Beginner ski, Class 1, 2 & 3 cross country ski tours.*

*The Plan*
Fri, 2/22/19,  Drive or Carpool to Red River, NM- Dinner on your own
Sat, 2/23/19, Ski or Snowshoe Enchanted Forest: Just Desserts Event, Cost
about $25,
                      Happy hour & Potluck Dinner at the Golden Eagle Lodge
in Red River,
Sun, 2/24/19, AM cross country ski tour in National Forest, TBD, Class 1, 2
& 3
                       Drive back to Albuquerque

*What you need to do if you plan to join us for the week-end trip:*
*1) E-mail Ruth, *crowscrows1 at gmail.com,* OR Scott, *samitch at comcast.net, that
you are joining us for the Red River Overnight trip.
- To organize weekend tours and potluck dinner on Saturday evening.

*2) Book Your lodging* in Red River or let me know you are available to
share a room with someone.
-Scott and I will try to assist with people finding roommates to share
costs.
-Some of us will be staying at the Golden Eagle Lodge in Red River, (Golden
Eagle Lodge & Elk Ridge lodge are next to each other. They are run by the

-Happy hour & Potluck dinner will be at Golden Eagle lodge.

*3) Buy ticket on-line for the Enchanted Forest Just Desserts Event*
*Sat, Feb 23, 2019, Noon-2pm* (We will ski or snowshoe at Enchanted forest
in AM)

-You can snowshoe or X-C ski the 5km course, part of the course or just eat
desserts at the Enchanted Forest lodge.
-For the event on 5 km course, Skiers and Snowshoes will be side by side on
the trail.
-Ski rentals at Enchanted forest are skinny skis only, no back country.
Pick up is on Sat am before the event. Snowshoe rentals go fast. Rentals
can be reserved.
*-Meet at Enchanted Forest lodge at 9:30am on Sat, 2/23*

*4) Decide if you are driving or carpooling.*
-Let Scott or myself know if you can take passengers or need a ride. We
will help coordinate carpooling.
-Approx. 170 miles from Albuq, North thru Taos, then at Questa go East to
Red River, NM
-Suggested Driver re-imbursement, $.15/mile for approx. 350 miles RT would
be $50.
-Final cost at Driver's discretion.
-Driver and passengers determine what time to leave Albuq on Friday and
return on Sunday.

*5) Decide what to bring for Happy Hour and Potluck dinner on Sat if you
are joining us*
-Bring what you plan to drink for Happy Hour
-Bring *a favorite* *dish*; appetizer, soup, salad, meat dish, veggie dish
OR dessert to the potluck.
(some of the hotel rooms have a mini frig, kitchenette or reg kitchen)
-No assignments, It will all work out plus it will be exciting!
*-Happy hour, 5-6pm & Potluck at 6pm*
*-Meeting at Golden Eagle Lodge, Rooms #30 & #31*

6)* Contact Scott if willing to lead a Class 1, 2 or 3 tour and suggested
tour area*
*Options:*
-Sat, Enchanted Forest on your own groomed trails or Beginner/Class 1 with
Ruth
-Sat in surrounding NF trails not Enchanted Forest, only Class 2 or 3-, (If
there is a leader)
-Sun on NF trails; Beginner, Class 1, 2 or 3

As we get closer to the weekend date, more information will be communicated
on snow conditions, weather and ski tour locations.
