Dear Denise,
I agree with Dave, and note that I've seen "closed" markers at Coyote
Call/Rabbit Ridge and Corral Canyon/Calzada trailheads. I did not notice
closure at Upper Frijoles loops, which are pretty flat, but which, based on
Los Alamos conditions, probably have good, deep snow now. Further west on
NM4, the Los Griegos and East Fork trail areas were not closed last week.
>From the western East Fork trailhead, the track is steady uphill, but not
steep. If you try the NM4 trailheads, the parking areas were not plowed
last week. We've had a lot of snow herein Los Alamos, and I'm not trying
those area until I get new tires.
Another possible option is the trail network west of the Pajarito Mountain
downhill area. It's accessible from the west end of the parking area
there. It's maintained by the Southwest Nordic Ski Club, but is open to
the public. It is frequently groomed, but if you ski far enough west, it
leads to Canada Bonita and points further west. It's popular, and there is
frequently a track that leads out across this meadow and beyond.
Finally, spouse Frances and I have been skiing the (unplowed) sidewalks and
schoolyard around the Barranca Mesa Elementary School for our morning
"walk" the last two mornings. No soccer today!

And the Los Alamos public golf course is in great shape for skiing - not so
good for golf!
Happy Trails
