[NMCCSC] Skiing Coyote Call in storm Fri., 3-22-19

Hello Skiers,

Yesterday, Friday, March 22, Lena Patterson and I skied in the large meadows near the Coyote Call Trailhead on the Valles Caldera National Preserve in the Jemez Mountains. We restricted our skiing to the meadows in order to not reinjure a shoulder and cracked rib.

As the attached Word document shows, we started skiing on 3 inches of fresh powder over a firm base in sunshine. Eventually we were skiing in cloudy conditions and then a mini-blizzard of blowing snow. Without the proper ski goggles for the flat light in these conditions, we could not see the surface contours, and the skiing was tedious.

Later we drove down to Bandelier NM, and we could see that the storm was over, and the mountains were white with a coating of snow.

I have since researched ski goggle colors on the Web. The www.thoughtco.com<http://www.thoughtco.com> site recommends yellow or gold for flat light. It also filters out blue light, and this lens can also work on sunny days, making it the best all-around ski goggle lens.
