Dear All;
I sincerely appreciate the discussions/concerns the NMCCSC is addressing relative to climate change... the issues have become too important to ignore... constructive respectful discussions/debate amongst all are part of the solution... the NMCCSC is healthy and strong to sufficiently survive/even thrive amidst these challenges.

For what it’s worth, the climate change presentation focused on science based information, steering clear of the political aspect. Nevertheless, your concerns were appreciated, and were addressed at the meeting. We definitely encourage membership participation of this nature and we hope you’ll continue to find our club to be your venue of choice for winter recreation.

But I would have joined Sierra Club if I wanted an advocacy group. I just want a group of people with whom to enjoy xc skiing without intense emotions, issues, debates or controversies. Last year I went on a non club yurt trip which was scarred when two friends got in a vicious argument over issues based on their opposite political orientations. I think it a mistake to "stir the pot" within the club over the climate change issue which clearly prompts intense emotions and opposing political positions around questions about its causes and what to do about it. Let's just enjoy the tranquility and beauty of xc skiing without taking with us the problems and controversies of our increasingly polarized and angry society.

It is not consistent with the objectives of the club. https://nmccskiclub.org/about-us/ . It could endanger our legal status and is not consistent with our charter as a recreational organization.

Running and hiding isn’t an option, so let’s talk about what we can do on personal, community, regional and global levels. We’ll discuss specific climate related issues that face us here in New Mexico as well as problems that all of humanity will face. Presentation will focus on a range of solutions, as well as enough information to enable and motivate you in to acting on them!"
