Hi all,

I saw a fair amount of XC skiers out today attempting the trails. I started out skiing down Challenge trail to the upper 10k meadow. Sandia Nordic roller groomed the entire thing, but skiing was only passable in the upper 10k. Plenty of bare spots and plenty of rocks but at least there is a base! After skiing back up to the Ellis parking lot I decided to try Switchbacks. I found the snow conditions today to be faster than yesterday as the trail has now been compacted by skiers. The snow itself was a nice packed powder. The obstacles? Well...you just had to ski balancing on one foot at times to avoid the rocks. Even so, I got a fair amount of dings. Be careful on that decent. I still thoroughly enjoyed myself out there. When I returned to the car I considered putting on the skate skis, but chickened out in the end. I didn’t want to risk running them over exposed gravel and didn’t feel comfortable as a brand new skate skier to try the lumpy service road and have people watching me as I wipe out. The ol’ 70mm BCs served me well today. All in all, good snow conditions, but just not enough. I’m keeping an eye out for when Enchanted Forest will open and Pajarito.

Cheers,
Amy
