Dear Group,
Can anyone give report if the down and back on flat service road from Ellis Parking lot is worth
it for those of us that just want to put our xc skis on for first time and get some
exercise in.
Thanks
Albert Bourbon

Subject: [NMCCSC] No logs down on official Switchback Trail

Hello Skiers,

A Ski Club member and a FOSM (Friends of the Sandia Mountains) volunteer skied/snowshoed official Switchback Trail in the last couple of days, and there are no trees down on the lower part of this trail.

The logs are apparently on an old segment of trail that the Sandia Ranger District Trails Manager does not want maintained. It is not an official trail.

Volunteers must be trained and certified by USFS personnel before they may operate crosscut saws and chain saws on the Sandia Ranger District (SRD)and any National Forest.

The NMCCSC sponsors trail maintenance outings every fall in the Jemez Mountains. Trails in the SRD are usually maintained by FOSM volunteers who remove down trees within one or two weeks of when they fall. Several Ski Club members are also members of FOSM and help maintain trails.
