Hi All,

Many thanks for the info. I am a new club member and brand new cross country skier (but experienced Alpine & backcountry skier).

I went to the Crest on Saturday to the Ellis Trailhead to try to gind the cross country trails. It wasn’t obvious where the trails were, possibly a reflection of the conditions you mentioned.

Would someone recommend a good place (hopefully within a couple of hours of ABQ) for a beginner to start practicing? Also, does anyone in the club offer lessons?

I would be grateful for any guidance you can offer.

All the best,

AJP

>>
>> Switchback Trial – Very hard packed snow, sliding to the side in places due to the out-slope of the surface.
>> Kiwanis Meadow Road – Hard backed snow. Tracks in the snow made by a vehicle that was wider than a pickup. Tires were the width of pickup tires. Vehicle turned around at Kiwanis Meadow.
>> Kiwanis Meadow – Covered with firm wind slab, grass, and hiker tracks.
>> Kiwanis Meadow Trail to Service Road – We walked down this trail (including the chute) to the Service Road.

>>
>> Capulin Snow Play Area – Open and very busy with shedders. The Crest Highway was dry with heavy traffic.
>>
>> If you know which type of vehicle made the wide tracks on Kiwanis Meadow Road, I would appreciate an email about it.
