I agree, Spruce Hole and Grouse Creek which is on the other side of the highway are the least snowmobile impacted.

the basic etiquette folks hope the snowmobiles follow is to NOT trash the routes to the various yurts up there. I find that Spruce Hole aea is by far the best for this. roughly 9 or 11 miles north of the state border.

Take highway 17 north out of Chama. Cross into Colorado and on through Cumbres Pass. Starting there and farther north, there are parking areas that the plows clear out at various trailheads. You’ll need a good map like the Gaia app to pick a trail you want to ski. The area is heavily used by snowmobiles, but some trails (I don’t know which) are reserved for skiers. The wildlife area on the edge of town has plenty of snow, but it's been around 30 degrees today, so may be getting wet. Skied Neff Mountain (near Cumbres Pass) and it was awesome. 20 degrees, 8 to 12 inches of new fairly soft stuff on a base of a couple more feet. Randy Simons
