[NMCCSC] Fabulous Aspen Vista 2/17

Hello skiers—thanks everyone for all the trip and road conditions reports. 
I took the day off yesterday and skied Aspen Vista with my friend (and soon to be NMCCSC member) Susan W. Conditions were superb, as expected. 

The road going up from Santa Fe to the ski area was mostly clear going up, with snowpacked spots in the downhill lane. However, the return trip was a different story!

It started snowing mid-afternoon and was coming down fairly heavily by 4:30 when we got back to the car, about 4” on the car. The road was snowpacked and hadn’t been sanded. So we started off cautiously and the Prius was doing fine, but traffic came to a standstill ahead and I had difficulty stopping, just avoiding sliding into the person ahead of me. 
Turns out it was slicker’n a greased pig out there!
We sat there for 3 hours, no joke, waiting for the accident ahead to get cleared. Susan walked ahead to see what was going on and got a picture. Meanwhile I put the tire chains on! 

We were doing a shake-down for an upcoming hut trip so we each had packed a sleeping bag, which made the last hour sitting in the car in dark more comfortable. 

Enjoy the snow, but remember there’s always a possibility of getting delayed and have plenty of emergency supplies in your vehicle! 😁
