[NMCCSC] Official outing to Los Griegos tomorrow is cancelled, but ….

Please see the report below about poor snow conditions on Los Griegos Mountain by Alan Shapiro who skied there today.

Email from Alan Shapiro today:

I skied an abridged loop from the Los Griegos trailhead today starting about 10:30am (blue track). Heading up clockwise toward Griegos junction I encountered bare spots, icy stretches, breakable crust, and short sections of nice powder. Generally very poor conditions. Skis needed to be removed multiple times. From my track the turn-around was due to lack of snow cover. Bailed out onto the 4WD road descending back to NM4 then a ski along the south edge of the road back to the start.


Due to the poor snow conditions on the mountain, I am cancelling the official Ski Club outing to Los Griegos Mountain tomorrow, Sat., Feb. 27.

My co-leader, Michael Arndt, and I have not skied Los Griegos this winter.  We plan to go tomorrow knowing that the conditions are bad. We will check for trees across the trails and especially check the upper Ladera switchbacks. We will go up Elk Ridge Trail to Griegos Junction.

We will be at the Target parking lot at 7:45 tomorrow, if anyone wants to go with us.

Please let me know if you plan to go tomorrow even though the conditions are bad.
