[NMCCSC] Fwd: Ellis Trail

La Plata Canyon is approximately 20 miles west of Durango Colorado.  Our third day of skiing was by far the best conditions at Vallecito, Colorado (approximately 20 miles east of Durango).  The Nordic trails were corduroy groomed with good snow pack.  They were expecting more snow last night.  This is a great place for beginners (class 1 & 2) skiers.

I was waiting for a report.  North Ellis tends to get baked quick.  I would guess that you may not have gone far enough for the junction.

Be patient, after a snow, take Survey north from Ellis parking, get some fun 'downhill runs' but then you get to climb back up!  Nice to always have kickers in your pack!

My friend Dick and I skied the Ellis Trail. We had planned to catch the 10k and loop back on the Survey but never found the trail junction. Conditions were generally very good though there are definitely thin spots and some places where the wind has blown the snow into hard pack. There are hidden rocks, so definitely take your rock skis.
