Hi all,
I just got back from skiing right here on our home mountain. I had fully expected conditions to have deteriorated to the point of ice and hard snow, but that was not the case at all! I ended up parking at the 10k lot, skiing up Sam/Kerry Trail and finished at the top on the groomed section. From the Ellis parking lot I skied up Switchbacks until the Survey trail junction. I skied Survey Trail and turned around at the Osha Trail junction. Survey was delightful. Yes, there was a place where I had to remove my skies to avoid rocks and what could have been a treacherous descent. The beginning of Survey had seen a lot of foot traffic until the Medallion tree. After that point it was just ski and snow shoe tracks making for really nice packed powder. Once I passed the 10k intersection it was ski tracks only. I turned around and had to do the nasty little climb all the way back up. Not bad at all! The snow was a nice packed powder providing ample grip with the fish-scales and nice speed on the downhill areas. There were some obstacles so I tried to take the descends at a controlled pace. When I reached the Switchback trail junction I decided to ski up Switchbacks to the upper service road. Switchbacks has seen much more traffic than Survey but it was a really nice packed powder and no icy sections. The descent all the way back to my car at the 10k lot was a lot of fun. Clouds kept the sun away (YAY!) so that the snow stayed consistent the entire time I was out. It actually felt like it was getting colder up there as the day wore on. Sometimes I just love to put on my comfortable BC Classics and cruise through the trees instead of fighting it out on my skates on the groomers. Now I have to find a way to recover so that I can take my son snowboarding tomorrow! I can honestly say I enjoyed today's outing better than my second day at Enchanted Forest! Get out and enjoy it before the sun comes out.
-Cheers,Amy
