Greeting skiers,

Hopefully most of you have been able to get out there and enjoy our wonderful winter…FINALLY!!  I had a the privilege to ski with Peter Marks, Dana Price, Guy Miller, and Tony Hsu on Wednesday.  We met up at the Sante Fe ski basin and skied the Windsor trail to Puerto Nambe meadow.  It was a glorious, blue bird powder day with snow still clinging to the branches of the trees.  We started out at a balmy 9 degrees, donned the skins and slogged up to the wilderness boundary.  It was a wonderful way to warm up.  On the initial accent there was still some exposed rocks and logs and I was already apprehensive about the inevitable descent later in the day due to the obstacles.  Once we reached the wilderness boundary we took off the skins and got to enjoy a free ride down to the ravine toward the trail junction to Nambe Lake.  The trail was already broken so that we could just enjoy the soft swoosh of the fresh powder.  I marveled at the depth of the snow and beauty all around me.  The contrast between the stark whiteness of the snow with a backdrop on cerulean skies was breathtaking.  We still had a 1.5-2 miles to go and the trail became virgin snow.  All three of us took turns breaking trail through about 1 to 1.5 foot of powder.  It was exhausting and I was so appreciative that for once I had some teamwork to get through it and I wasn’t solo!  Our hard work paid off and we finally reached Puerto Nambe.  The descent on the way back was a lot of fun in our newly broken trail through the powder, enabling us to have a lot of control.  There were some stompers out there who post-holed the trail but it was still very enjoyable.  We did a total of 8.5 miles.

Cheers,
Amy
