Hi folks,
Lots of skiers were out enjoying our mountain today! I was pretty tired from yesterday's clinic, but saw clouds over the Sandias this morning and thought maybe it got a dusting. Nope. I parked at my usual spot at the 10k parking lot. The groomed sections leading up to Ellis parking lot were in excellent shape and part of me wished I was on my skate skies. I've decided to leave the skates at home on weekends so I don't embarrass myself too much! From the Ellis lot I skied up Switchbacks to the Survey Trail Junction.
I tried to "ski" the Survey Trail. Ditto on David's recent report. I only skied 3/4 of it before I decided to turn around. I wore my 65mm skis with 3/4 metal edge so probably my BC Alpinas would have been a better choice . The snow is holding up and it is skiable, but it is mostly used by snowshoers. The packed powder and lumpy snow made for precarious descents. Be on the lookout for those downed trees David mentioned. Sam and crew did an admirable job removing the huge ones so that we can at least enjoy the trail. If it is solitude you are looking for, give Survey a go. Just know that conditions are not fantastic for skiers at the moment and it will be slow going in order to be safe.
Rest day tomorrow and then I start my new job!
-Amy
