Greetings club,
I parked at the 10K lot today at noon and it was already about 45 degrees.  I opted for my skate skis today and skied up through the groomers to the Ellis parking lot. It felt more like April up there than January.  I saw one person in a sleeveless shirt and I ended up taking off my light jacket and just wore a long sleeve base shirt.  I also did a lap on the Service Road.
Conditions on the lowest portion of the Sandia Nordic groomed section are thinning with a few rocks exposed in the first section.  The remaining portion of groomed trails still maintain decent snow coverage.  Due to warming conditions the snow was slushy and slow in sun-drenched places and still packed powder in the shade.  I was worried that the Service Road would start to have gravel and ice issues, but I found it was still a very enjoyable outing with full coverage.  The slush was slow going but I'd rather have that on the descents than hard pack and ice.  There was one really great skater out today doing laps around me!  Oh well.  I had a very nice outing and felt that snow conditions were still enjoyable.  I do not know what the trail conditions are like as I stuck to the groomers today.  At least there is still snow up there!  The 10K parking lot was approaching the mid-50s when I got back.
