Hello Judi,

I recommend skiing the trails in the forest around Redondo Campground on Wed., Jan. 18. They are easy and tracks were set by my group on Sunday. There are about 12 inches or more of snow. Park across the road from the CG. Cross the road and ski into the CG starting at the green sign on the tree. Turn left on the CG Road and follow the tracks that go to the left after a short distance.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, Michael Arndt and I plan to lead two tours in the Coyote Call area on the Valles Caldera National Preserve. The Easier tour will be to the west parallel to the highway for about 1.5 miles one-way and then back. Michael will lead a Class I-Ii tour on Coyote Call Loop Trail. The RT distance is about 3 miles. He will go up the steep part, along the level part, and then back down to the cars.

Do you have a copy of my trail guide? I am giving them away at not cost. The second edition was published in 1988 but much is still current. The VCNP was a ranch then. Coyote Call is located on the south side of NM-4 across the highway from Valle Grande.

Go to the VCNP Web site for details.

I will give you a couple of copies of my book if you will come to my house near Tramway and Paseo del Norte in Sandia Heights South. Let me know if you are interested.
