James and I drove up the Crest road today for a ski. It was EXTREMELY stressful driving. Most of the hairpin turns have been plowed to only a single lane causing lots of back ups. Since no parking lots were plowed other than Capulan and the lower summit lot , that meant that hundreds of people had to park all along the road. The hairpin below Ellis is nearly impassable and we had to wait a while so someone could get winched out. Too bad this is a regular reality for our mountain. Maybe it's time we move to town and take the tram.
Sandia Ski downhill area was open but our son said the lift didn't work so hundred of people paid for a ticket and could not ski or board. Sandia Ski also had no plowed parking to accommodate their hoards of snow-goers.
I'm really trying not to complain here, but want to tell folks the issues with driving up there and the downhill ski problems that occurred today. TAKE THE TRAM TOMORROW if you head up.
Snow 3-4 feet, with excellent conditions.
I might try again Monday morning before work but I won't be driving up there again tomorrow due to the amount of people and road conditions.
