Hello Skiers,

On Friday, October 18, Ski Club volunteers will maintain ski trails in the East Fork area in the Jemez Mountains. Elk hunting in this area is from Saturday through Wednesday each week; therefore, the trail work is scheduled for a day with no hunting.

We will park in the large parking area on NM-4 at Los Griegos Mountain. We will cross the highway and hike up a couple of trails to the East Loop of the East Fork Ridge Trail. We will use chain saws to remove fallen trees from the trails. We will then hike along the Ridge Trail to the west to a meadow with an excellent view of Redondo Peak. From here, we will hike along the upper part of Mistletoe Canyon Trail to a ridge leading to our parked vehicles.

In addition to removing fallen trees, we will prune branches so that the trails are ready for skiing in a couple of months.

We will hike approximately 4 miles slowly and enjoy lunch probably at a location with good views.

Wear warm clothes, and hiking boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring a jacket and hat, because we may have some rain. Also, bring snacks, drinks, lunch, and work gloves.

Tools will be provided, but if you have a favorite trail maintenance tool, bring it.

Meet at 8 am on the WEST side of the large parking lot at the Target store southeast of the intersection of I-25N and Paseo del Norte.

We will carpool and probably return to Albuquerque by 6 pm.

Please email me at samgbeard at msn.com, if you have questions.
