Hello Skiers,
On Saturday, November 22, Ski Club volunteers will perform maintenance on ski trails in the Redondo Campground area in the Jemez Mountains.
We will park in the large parking lot at the San Diego Canyon Overlook, cross the highway, and hike on CG roads to the south and follow the Loop Trail to the highway and the Crater Spur Trailhead. We will follow this trail to the two hydrothermal explosion craters and the loop trail near the highway. We hiked here earlier, and we found at least one 8-inch log across the trail. We will be carrying either a small chain saw or a 16-inch folding hand saw to cut trees across the trail. Tools will be provided.
Depending on the time when we return to the Loop Trail, we may also hike that trail or part of trail that makes a loop in the forest around the campground.
Wear appropriate boots for hiking in a few to several inches of snow.
Sunny weather is forecast for the Jemez Mountains, but wear layers of clothing for cool mountain temperatures at an elevation of about 8100 feet. Bring warm gloves, a warm hat, sun screen, snacks, lunch, and drinks.
Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target parking lot at the intersection of I-25N and Paseo del Norte.
Please contact me at 505-369-2330 or by email, if you have questions. We will arrive at the overlook parking lot at about 9:45.
