Hello all, I attended (via Zoom) the Rio Grande National Forest informational meeting on their Over-Snow Management Travel Plan. Here is what I learned. If you have not already done so, our best choice is to send in comments on plan.cara.fs2c.usda.gov/Public/CommentInput?Project=291552
Some suggestions are to begin by describing your personal relationship to RGNF (e.g., I have skied in the Cumbres Pass area many times; I have stayed in...yurt; etc.) Then discuss the four alternative maps www.fs.usda.gov/r02/riogrande/projects/291552 (look under NOI scoping and then Conejos Peak; you can also choose the Divide maps if you have investment in the Wolf Creek area),In my opinion our best choice is alternative 4, with some revisions. You decide. Using words like user conflicts and quiet zones might help. Make it your own! If it sounds like a form letter from NMCCSC they will lump them all together as only one comment. So if you have skied in the Cumbres/La Manga Pass area and have a stake in future winter recreation there, comments are due by Wednesday. My opinion? Our best hope is that they decide on Alternative 4 with a few minor changes. I doubt we'll get that much. Thanks,David D'Antonio
