Hello NMCCSC people!
This is just a reminder about the MTB ride Amy and James Mathis will be doing before the picnic. If you have a gravel bike I'm not sure how those will handle on the trail, but you are welcome to try. You can always bale and ride the road if it doesn't work out.
We want to extend the invitation for an informal, non-club sponsored "pre-pig-out-picnic" mountain bike ride in beautiful Oak Flats!
Amy and James Mathis plan to mountain bike some trails for about an hour and half or so before the picnic to earn some caloric replenishment. We have been enjoying this ride annually before the picnic; it’s been a great warm up for the pig-out! Letting you all know in case you, too, would enjoy a cycling meal prep with us.

The Ponderosa Loop is one of the best beginner to intermediate mountain bike rides available in this area. With few obstacles and gentle terrain. You can enjoy the ponderosa and oak meadows with swooping turns and then take westward trails to head back, gradually climbing on an old doubletrack.

Park at Oak Flats main parking lot and meet us by the Oak Flats Trailhead. >From there we will work our way across the parking lot to the Ponderosa Loop. Ponderosa Loop is considered a beginner to intermediate level trail. We can add the Alligator Alley to our ride which might add another mile or so. If we do the full length of the route I posted it could end up being about 7 miles with up to 400’ elevation gain. There are many ways to make this shorter or longer if we (you) choose to do so.

The attached map is a general route that we will take.

What time are we going?:       2:30pm

Where are we going?      Park in the main parking lot area and meet us by the Oak Flats Trailhead

What should I bring?     Your mountain bike, water, sunscreen, bike helmet, a snack if needed, and a small first aid kit

Follow the link below to see the map in Caltopo. This is the same map as the attached pdf, but you can zoom in to see greater detail.     https://caltopo.com/m/4LL7U4B
Please find the attached gpx for the route that you can download to your devices should you choose to do so.

Hope to see some of your there!-Amy
