Hello Skiers,

On Wednesday, January 9, Carl Smith, Bet Gendron, Holly Noland, and I skied on Los Griegos Mountain on the Jemez Ranger District.

We parked on the south side of NM-4 in the large plowed parking lot and skied up Ladera Trail to Griegos Junction. Mike Meier joined us for part of the tour up to the GJ. The snow was settled powder, and our tracks were only about 2 inches deep after we skied over it. Below GJ, we entered parts of the forest burned in the Cajete Fire a few years ago.

At GJ we had lunch and then skied up the switchbacks to Upper Road. All the blue plastic diamonds had burned in the fire, and on a work day in November we flagged the route that we followed on Wednesday.

Descending was fast in these snow conditions, and I came down with skins on my skis to reduce my speed. We returned to the vehicle at 4 pm after have started at 10 am.

Photos by Carl Smith and Bet Gendron are presented in the attached Word document.
