Skiers,
Good to hear all the fine ski reports from near and far.
Mary Kaye, Catherine and Dana rode the tram today. We skied Rocky Point and out Survey trail to the overlook, up the N Crest trail, and back via Switchback, Buried Cable and Gravel Pit trails. It was very quiet on the trails, only a few skiers and snowshoers out. Needless to say, it's wonderful out there!
Ski area is reporting 7" as of this afternoon and the road (at least, the upper part) hadn't been plowed. We did see one big truck drive up.
Real winter... Yes!

Also my gratitude to Kerry Woods and any other FS personnel who have made subsequent clearings to keep these lots accessible during this period of government shutdown.

Hi Dave, Good on ya for helping with the plowing. Maybe in sight of the club not having funds in there budget , the club could put this on there web site with links to Sandia Nordic so members could easily find the link if they would like to help out. This would not take any funds and would be a good gesture to the community who are providing a needed service that benefit x-c skiing in NM. I have had several members contact me directly asking for how they could contribute . Thx. and Good to see you Yesterday,  Gordon

Hi Gordon,
Unfortunately the NMCCSC does not have a slush fund of extra money to pay for unauthorized expenses (unauthorized by the general membership; not allocated in the annual budget presented to members for a vote). Who would have foreseen that there would be a need for private citizens to plow parking on Federal lands?

I am very grateful to Sandia Nordic for the plowing they organized and have expressed that gratitude with my pocketbook. I hope and expect others have as well. But it would be irresponsible for the NMCCSC Board to donate member funds for this purpose. Kind of like a Commander in Chief deciding to use disaster relief funds to build a border wall.

Members of the x-c ski club are probably the highest users of the Ellis parking area. With the federal gov. still shut down , Sandia Nordic has been generous enough to pay a private contractor to clear the lot for all of us to use. We could not have used Ellis yesterday for the beginners class w/o Sandia Nordic paying for it to be plowed.  It would be a great gesture for the X-C ski club to help with this expense. After the snow was cleared we had another 4-5" yesterday and another 5'+ today. We will  need another clearing if we intend to keep this highly used area open. A lot of us have contributed out of our pocket  and will continue to do so, but if the club can kick in it would be great. Best, Gordon
