I invite you to join me for skiing in the Valles Caldera this coming Sunday.
My plan is to lead a class 2/3 outing from the headquarters area to South Mountain. (That trip is roughly 12 miles and 1,400 ft elevation gain, so class 2 for elevation gain but class three for total miles.) This is an in-and-out route, so less ambitious skiers can ski the same route if they want and just turn around when satisfied. ...Or ski a totally different path. For South Mountain there is roughly three miles (one way) of fairly level terrain before the main elevation gain starts and then roughly another three miles with more climbing. We will expect to have to break trail the second half of the climb.
The entry fee to the Valles Caldera is presently waived, but parking there is limited. We will carpool with similar energy levels in mind so that those who are done sooner need not hang around. Once we leave Target, each carload is solely responsible for coordinating their carload's return plans. The headquarters does have some limited heated public space, so anyone returning sooner than the rest of their carload need not wait in the cold (but bringing a book might be in order).
If interested, drop me a line so I have some idea of how many might be coming. Send that note to pecos_hiker@yahoo.com; do NOT just "reply-all", which will spam everyone.
We'll plan to leave from the west side of Target, I-25 and Paseo del Norte, at 8:00 (be there a little before 8:00). Plan to drive or pay your driver $15 gas money ($20 if you don't bring correct change).
