Hello, Skiers--- last chance to get in on this one. We already have 9 people potentially joining us. It looks like Wednesday is going to be better than Tuesday for skiing as far as snow is concerned. Unfortunately, it'll be windier on that day, but we can't have everything. So, let's do Aspen Vista. If it's too windy we can divert to Windsor Tr in hopes the trees will shelter us.
Albuquerque skiers: Meet at Target at Paseo del Norte and I 25 at 0800 on Wed March 13. I'll be on the west side of the building closest to the freeway. Look for my white over white Kia Sorento with black Yakima cargo box on top.
Santa Fe skiers: Meet the Albq group at the Aspen Vista trailhead at 1000 .
This is pretty much a class II trip, but it's class III due to distance, if we make it all the way to the the towers . It's 6 miles one way with about a 2400 ft elevation gain. This route follows a road, so there's nothing technical about it, but it does get steeper toward the top. Climbing skins are definitely recommended, although I can't remember if I've needed them in the past. I will be bringing kicker skins at least.
High temp is expected to be 23 F. Winds could make conditions brutal for those who do not prepare accordingly.
Those of you who have 2 way radios, please bring them, as we're likely to get strung out on this long route.
If you're planning to ride with someone else, mileage reimbursement should be about $23 (@ $0.15 per mile) from Albuquerque. Please bring correct change.
