Just a little FYI.  I remember 'folks that know' in town said that, at least with cottonwood branches, the day after a big wind was dangerous because everything was weakened during the wind and then the weight brings the wood down on the next day.  Anyway, good idea to be careful anytime.  I remember working on the Klaus Trail, I heard a thump behind me and, Voila, there was a tree on the ground in back of me!   You'll hear 'cracking' in the woods but its possible that falling could produce no sound at all.  Bet Gendron

Hello Skiers,

Please see the warning below from Kerry Wood, Sandia RD Trails and Wilderness Program Manager, about staying out of the forest today with the high winds.

Many trees in the Sandias are weakened and can be dangerous in high winds.

Hope folks are staying out of the woods today with these winds. It is undoubtedly a “watch-out” situation.

If you are a SRD volunteer, this is not the day to be under the vast number of weakened trees out there. See all applicable JHA’s about overhead hazards. We need you to not be smooshed…. Thanks!
