Hello everyone! Based on the responses to the Beacon Practice Class survey, Saturday Dec 14, 2019 will work best for the most people.

We'll plan to meet at 9 am at a location to be determined. Plan on being outside for about 3 hours. If the group stays small we will likely finish up sooner. More information is on the way.

I'll focus future emails for this class to the group that expressed interest. If anyone else who has not responded would like to join us, please email me directly or call me. At this point we have space.

I will do another class sometime in January for those who want to wait until after the holidays.

Thank you and enjoy the snow!!

Ok, thanks for the response. I am considering having a class both the weekend of the 7th and 14th if my schedule allows. This is my first time doing this so it would be good practice for me to do 2 back 2 back.

Thanks again for the interest.

Doug

Hi Doug, thanks for organizing this. I rsvp’ed for the first weekend. I could probably make the second one but my son should be arriving the 14th so I’ll likely be trying to do something with him.  So,whatever is best for the group snd I’ll try to make it.

Hello skiers!
I am organizing a beacon training for this ski season. This will be a practice session for those with experience or interest in backcountry skiing. This will not be an avalanche class. I highly recommend anyone interested in backcountry skiing to take an avalanche course.
Knowing how to operate your beacon is essential for yourself and those you are skiing with when traveling in the backcountry.
Please sign up by clicking on the link below.
The practice session will take place either the weekend of 12/7/19 or 12/14/19.  When you sign up via the link, select which days work best for you.
The session will take about 3 hours from 9am-noon. Location to be determined, probably somewhere in the Sandias. Hopefully there will be snow, but you can practice beacon and burial scenarios even in the summer.
If neither of the these dates work for you, I will likely hold another training in the first 2 weeks of January.
We will review the following:
1.    Equipment-beacon, probes, shovels

2.    Beacon checks at the trailhead

3.    Practice with beacon for a single burial scenario
Please click on the link below to sign up. Please call or email me with any questions 505-717-5636.Please respond by 11/30/2019. Thank you and I look forward to skiing with you and digging each other out!
