Hi all,
Yesterday I took my BC 70mm Rossis and parked at the 10k trail. The snow quality was wonderful! I skied on Christmas Eve day and it was so hard packed I had to stick to the Service Road and wished I had skate skis. I’d say there was about 5 inches of fresh snow for Christmas Day. I skied up the 10k meadow to the Ellis parking lot, headed up Switchbacks to pick up the Survey trail. It was great! Ski tracks were already laid down but ended at the medallion tree. After that I followed snow shoe tracks to the 10k North junction point. I decided conditions were good enough to make the return back to the car via the 10k North trail. There were no tracks and in a few places the trail was hard to find. It was challenging for sure due to the steep descent on 10k before it curves to the south. The remainder was all up hill but it was easy to dig in with my fish scales in most places. I had lots of dead fall to negotiate and it was slow going but this is a loop I only do in fresh snow. It felt like a true backcountry experience.
Ski on!
