Hi,
The next club meeting (coming up quick, 1/9/20) will have a presentation by Gerry Trujillo on technology for planning an outing. Gerry has requested members to share their technology experiences with him before the meeting so that he can address any questions you may have. His email is in the write up below, which is what will appear in the upcoming newsletter.

Thanks,
Bob

NMCCSC January 2020 Presentation

"Gerry Trujillo will be presenting “Current Location Technology and Route Planning Resources.”  He’ll “lift the hood” on the GPS system and explain how current systems provide us with our location on the ground.  Topics covered will include how consumer GPS receivers differ from mobile phone location capabilities.  Recommended practices for improving your device accuracy will be covered.  Our expectations for position accuracy may change once we learn how external factors impact position reliability.  Is the position provided absolute?  Is a 10 digit coordinate better than a six digit coordinate?  Should we still learn old school map navigation?  What is meant by 'Death by GPS?"

"There are many products on the market that help us go from point A to point B.  Our trust in the new technology may at times cloud our need for research and common sense of getting to our destination.  Gerry will provide a brief overview of mapping and route planning applications as well sources for mapping data.  Members are asked to share their experiences with hardware, applications, and workflows they utilize.  You may submit your brief bulleted list to Gerry via email before the January meeting to gerttruj@yahoo.com or at the meeting.   Gerry will summarize those submitted on a follow up article in a subsequent newsletter."
