Hello Skiers,

On Saturday, Jan. 18, I will lead a Class II tour on the Corral Canyon and Calzada Trails in the Jemez Mountains. The trailhead is located on the south side of NM-4 12.4 miles east of the intersection of NM-4 and NM-126 in La Cueva. We may have fresh snow, because snow is forecast for Thursday and Friday.

From the Corral Canyon Trailhead parking place, we will ski across meadows and then up the somewhat steep part of Corral Canyon just north of Junction Meadow. Although skins are not required, they will make climbing this segment easier. From this meadow, we turn east and ski up to Forest Road 282. We then turn to the southwest and ski to a meadow where there are views to the south to the Sandia Mountains. We then descend on a traverse on the north side of the ridge and continue to Tee Intersection at 9192 feet elevation.

We follow Calzada Trail back to Junction Meadow and descend on Corral Canyon Trail back to the trailhead.

Elevation change -- 8640-9450-9192-8640 feet.
