The ski club will host an intermediate skills practice on Sunday, January 19th at Sandia Peak ski area. At this session we will work on downhill turns--snow plow, step turns, stem christie, parallel and telemark. Also included will be practice with skins for skinning uphill (Bring your own skins, rent, or borrow. We don't have extras to loan out.)
Appropriate ski gear for this session is skis with metal edges, wider skis, stiff boots and bindings made for turning. Three-pin bindings are OK, (but not NNN bindings--the bar under the toe- w/ skinny skis, which are made for kick & glide forward motion, not for carving turns).
Plan to buy a lift ticket ($35 for beginner lift only) unless you are only practicing skinning uphill. We will work on the beginner slope.
Meet at Smith's at Tramway and Central, SW corner, at 8:00 a.m. to carpool to the ski area. Or meet at the ski area if coming from the east side.
Please get your lift ticket then meet in front of the ski rental building just below the beginner lift at 9:00 a.m. Your volunteer instructors (Dan, Marlene, Stacey) will wait for you there and I (Susan) will meet everyone at the ski area.
Please email me to let me know who is coming so we don't miss anyone. Email Susan at
tele4fun@gmail.com. We will divide into groups at the ski area depending on what everyone wants to practice. See you there!
