Today I thought I could get by with crampons on 10k north. Ah, no. After about a half mile the trees were down and unbeknownst to me the trail took a hard left. I butt walked a bit before giving up. Snow was to my thighs and more. Quite an adventure. Those with snowshoes seemed to have no problem, especially if they stayed on the trail!
Gorgeous day!

With the rain at lower elevations yesterday at coolish temps I just had to check out the snow on the crest trails today.

Arrived at Ellis TH about 12:30 and it was 29 F. Only a light breeze. Rocky Point was icy but doable, tho tricky in spots. Back towards TH on the service road which was slushy and while it was carved up by snow mobile tracks it was skiable for the most part. I then did a short section of Survey/Switchback, up at first-that was hard ice and no fun-kept thinking this is going to be hard to go back down.

All in all it was good to be out on the snow but conditions are really on the poor side. Can’t say I recommend it.
