Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, December 30, 2019, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew removed 4 trees, ranging in size from 4 to 20 inches in diameter from Upper and Lower Switchback, Gravel Pit and Crest Trail 130. Protruding branches were also removed as needed. A chainsaw, crosscut saw and other hand tools were used for this work.

While the thermometer on the USFS truck showed 3 degrees at the Ranger Station in the morning, the temperature at the top stayed in the mid-teens during the day. The sky was sunny and clear. It was indeed a beautiful day to be out on the mountain. The snow was in excellent shape with many inches of new, loose snow. Deeper drifts are beginning to form in some places. Skis or snowshoes are needed at the higher locations.

While the crew saw only a few folks on the trails where we worked, by the time we came out at Ellis, the parking lot was jammed with people parking everywhere. The same was true at the other higher lots on the mountain.

Please see the attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Cliff Giles.

Happy New Year!

Bob L.
