[Volunteers_fosm] Trail Work Report For Monday, June 24, 2019

Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, June 24, 2019, the FOSM Trails Crew removed 22 trees, ranging in size from 6 to 19 inches in diameter, from Crest Trail 130 North, from its trailhead to the 10K North junction, and from that portion of 10K North between the Crest Trail 130 North and Ellis Trail junctions. Crosscut saws and other hand tools were used for this work. Due to the number of volunteers who participated, it was possible to divide into two crews which could "leap frog" each other as the work moved along. This proved to be quite beneficial given the amount and complexity of the tasks at hand. Crest Trail 130 North is now clear from trailhead to 10K North Junction. Including work done there last Monday, 10K North trail is now entirely clear.

As has been the norm for this year, a number of very large fallen trees and multiple tree train wrecks were once again encountered. In the face of either extremely large trees or huge, complicated and dangerous multi-tree pileups, building convenient and sustainable re-routes proved to be the best option.

The day was basically cool and quite pleasant with light breezes, but sometimes the afternoon sun provided a reminder that summer had indeed arrived.

Monday's crew consisted of Sam Beard, Bill Savage, Lou Romero, Jim Levesque, Jerry Pekarek, Cliff Giles, Byron Garner, Rav Nicholson, Bet Gendron, Phil Cromer and Bob Lowder.
