Hello Everyone:

Today, Monday, February 14, 2022, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked Tecolote trail to remove two previously reported fallen trees (12 and 16 inches in diameter) and to do whatever other work that might be necessary. Given the existing conditions, besides the tree removals, only some minor brushing was done and two overhead widow makers were taken down. A crosscut saw, large folding saws and other hand tools were used for this work. The morning started out brisk with the sun warming things up as the day progressed. As for trail conditions, there was a wide variety; dry frozen dirt, mud, hard packed ice, mud, packed snow, mud, loose snow and mud. Although it seems a bit early, "Mud Season" has arrived in the Sandias at least at this evaluation. The trail is now clear of fallen timber from end to end. Tecolote is one of the trails that FOSM has adopted.

Monday's crew consisted of Jerry Pekarek, Byron Garner, Jamey Browning, Rav Nicholson, David McCreery, Cleve Sharp, Phil Cromer and Bob Lowder. Given the size of the crew and relatively close locations of the fallen trees, we were able to divide into two crews to do the work.

Please see the attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Cleve Sharp, Jamey Browning and David McCreery.

Thanks,

Bob L.
