Hello Everyone,

Ski Club member, David D Antonio, send me the following report of trees still down on Survey Trail after the work last Wednesday.

Hi Sam,

Thank you and thanks FOSM for all the hard work. Because of it, I was able to "ski" the Survey all the way to the junction of the 10K. Here is what I found:

To describe, I will break this part of the Survey into thirds. The 1st third is the section from the highway to the last small rock face climb. This is what has been cleared. Again, thank you all.

The 2nd third is from this point, down the hills, past the War of the Roses Tree and under the large hangup that is about 8' off the ground and has been a fixture for a number of years now. After this the trail drops a bit further, then doglegs slightly uphill to the right and then to the left and a relative flat. The last third begins at the end of this flat.

If my memory serves me, there are 4 downed trees and two hang ups (avoidable) in the 2nd section. Two trees will be covered with more snow and perhaps the most dangerous downed tree of all is just at the bottom of the largest hill of this entire section. Could be a problem if folks go too fast, not knowing it's there. I believe I mentioned this one prior- it's over a foot in diameter, but branches just on the trail making it more like 8" and 10". The other tree that will not be covered is a bit past this. One can easily avoid or get over all of these with careful planning.

Unfortunately, this is not true in the last section. I counted 9 downed trees and another hangup. Most are in the 10-12" range, but two are quite large, about the size of the large tree that was cut. Only one will be covered in more snow, and at least 3 are difficult to get over or around. The two largest downed trees are nearer the 10K junction, the last one right before the small open area that one skis down and then doglegs left and then right to the 10K junction.

David
