Hello Wed. Volunteers,
The planned reroute of the Kiwanis Meadow Trail between Kiwanis Meadow and Switchback Trail will eliminate the chute, the steep route that leads down to the Service Road. The length of the reroute is about 500 feet.
On Friday morning, Oct. 21, volunteers will continue working on the reroute until about 1 pm and will then attend the SRD Volunteer Appreciation Event at Oak Flat Picnic Area beginning at 2 pm.
The following tasks remain in this project:
1. Hang-up removal – We need a volunteer familiar with removing hang-up to work on this task with one other volunteer. The hang-up is a dead 12-inch diameter tree.
2. Removing logs in center of reroute – Removal of 6-inch and 12-inch logs in the center of the reroute.
3. Removal of the complex arrangement of the large log and supporting logs. We need sawyers and swampers to work carefully on removing the 2-foot to 3-foot log supported by several smaller logs near the junction with Switchback Trail.
Meet at 8 am at the FOSM Guard Station on Friday, October 21. Wear or bring the usual PPE for chain saw work. Bring snacks, lunch, drinks, warm clothes, and work gloves.
Please let me know if you plan to work on Friday morning. samgbeard at msn.com<mailto:samgbeard at msn.com>
