Hello Everyone,

On Wednesday, Nov. 29, FOSM volunteers will cut brush along Forest Road-333 from La Luz Trailhead to the junction with the La Cueva PA Road. The objective of the project is to make the road safer for drivers and bicyclists. Sandia Ranger District personnel will be controlling traffic so that the volunteers can work safely.

East Mountains volunteers should meet at 9 am at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Ranger Station to load equipment into vehicles. Some drivers may want to leave their vehicles there and ride with someone else to reduce the number of vehicles left at a couple of other sites.

Albuquerque volunteers will meet at 9:30 to 9:45 at the parking lot on Forest Road-333 near the junction with La Cueva PA Road.

The Forest Service will bring two vehicles so that one will be in front of the FOSM crew, and one will be behind the FOSM crew as we work down the road. Only uphill traffic will permitted of a period, and then only downhill traffic will be permitted. It would probably be helpful for the FS people to have radios. We should minimize the number of private vehicles in the caravan of work vehicles going down so that the FS vehicles are not so far apart. We can also leave vehicles at La Luz Trailhead parking lot; therefore, volunteers will be car pooling as we work downhill.

Wear warm long pants, long sleeve shirt, and boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring snacks, drinks, lunch, warm work gloves, hard hat, warm jacket, and eye and ear protection. We will be using loppers, pruning saws, and chain saws.

Please email me if you have questions.

Sam Beard, Project Chair
