Hello Everyone,

Joelle Hertel and Sam Beard are leading a project to install a steel roof on the Tunnel Spring restroom at the North Crest Trailhead near Placitas.

The SRD purchased materials for metal roofs on eight restroom several years ago. We completed the seventh installation a few years ago. The installation of the metal roof on the Tunnel Spring restroom will complete this project.

The schedule for the various steps in this roof installation project follows:

  1.
On Monday, SRD employees, Manny and Kenny, will remove all the old shingles and felt so that we can see the condition of the plywood sheathing.
  2.
On Tuesday, Joelle and Sam will supervise the loading of equipment and materials on a large SRD trailer that will be parked in the boneyard over night.
  3.
On Wednesday, May 13, at approximately 8 am, Manny and Kenny will tow the trailer to Tunnel Spring Trailhead.
  4.
FOSM volunteers will repair any damaged plywood sheathing, install a roof on the small ventilation structure on the roof, and then install a metal roof on the restroom.

Volunteers may meet at 8 am at the FOSM Guard Station and drive to work site or they may drive directly to the Tunnel Spring parking lot and arrive at approximately 9 am.

We need volunteers to work on the ground and on the roof. The volunteers on the roof will be wearing a harness for safety. Volunteers on the ground will be cutting materials and passing them to the volunteers on the roof. The volunteers on the roof will be using battery-powered drills to install the various steel parts of the roor with screws.

Please let me know by email by Friday, May 8, if you plan to work on this project. I can email you directlons, if you do not know how to get to the work site.
