Ok, not the usual Thursday Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) trail session. A small group of volunteers helped Russell Berman, Cibola National Forest and Grasslands Trails Resource Assistant, and John, a member of the Sandia Ranger District seasonal trail crew, to complete a trails project in a location with very limited work space. The crew built two crib walls for a future trail section to get over a rock outcrop.
Berman's Boulder Bunch consisted of Phil Cromer, Mark Grazier, and Betsy and Bob Galloway. After a day of very heavy work, the crib wall was completed though much more backfill will be added later. The last step was throwing brush over the section to discourage use until the connecting trail and more backfill are complete. Part of the effort was carrying in all the gear to position the boulders. No need for a trip to the gym for this group!
A beautiful day spent in a Sandia Mountain ponderosa forest. We had a good crew, working together well, and adept at fitting together the boulder puzzle. And the section is all ready for a trail crew to work their way in to complete the trail tread.
