Hello Everyone,
On Friday, April 19, six FOSM volunteers felled 11 hazard trees at the Ski Area Overflow Parking Area, the large dirt area on the Crest Highway a short distance below the Sandia Peak Ski Area. Kerry Wood, SRD Trails and Wilderness Program
Manager, said that there were so many dead white firs there that he did not mark them as hazard trees. He requested that dead trees be felled across an unofficial road leading north from the parking area and that dead trees within about 1-1/2 tree lengths
of the parking area be removed.
The volunteers felled six trees across the road to prevent access by vehicle to an overlook. They also felled five trees around the edge of the parking area.
The volunteers were Jim Levesque, Bob Lowder, Sally Lowder, Sam Beard, Phil Cromer, and Michael Arndt.
Photos of the project are presented in the two attached Word documents.
