On Thursday May 16, the Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) led another trail session in support of the Sandia Ranger District (SRD) Cienega/Armijo Trails Improvement Project (CATIP). The session focused on rerouting user trail TC24 up and over the ridge from Armijo Canyon

The reroute bypasses a lung-busting user trail with four loops which make for an easily navigated sustainable trail. The 11 volunteers were Eric Russell, Jenny Blackmore, Mark Grazier, Dave Harding, Lorna Morrow, Phil Cromer, Mike Madden, Jim Houle, Bruce Hansche, and Betsy and Bob Galloway. Directing the crew was Canyon Young, SRD seasonal trail crew lead and his three very hardy crew members. The group of 15 trail workers made great progress on TC24, as shown in the attachment, completing more than expected. One or two more sessions should complete this section.

The weather was the warmest of the year so far but the overcast and breeze made working conditions pleasant. Funny thing, the trail tools always seem much heavier on the hike out...
