Hello Everyone:

Following the postponement of the Cedro thinning project work Wednesday morning and subsequent limbing and bucking work at Lower Capulin PA,(See report from Sam Beard), the FOSM Trails Crew travelled up the mountain to remove a previously reported fallen tree from Crest Trail 130. This tree was said to be located about halfway between the tram and the junction of the new connector trail which goes from 130 up to Kiwanis Cabin. This work had not been previously planned, but we had the gear, the crew and sufficient time, so up we went.

Before the crew even got to the reported fallen tree, three other trees were removed as follows; an 18" diameter green fir tree that fell across the trail at waist height, The top of a 6" diameter fallen green fir that was on top of a deep snowdrift completely blocking the trail and an 8" diameter "porcupine" green fir that fell along the upper margin of the trail with branches that were encroaching well into the tread.

While the section of Crest Trail 130 between the Crest and the upper tram terminal is now clear of fallen trees, hikers should be aware that there are some areas where remaining deep snowdrifts can make crossing a bit hazardous.

Yesterday's Crest trail crew consisted of Jim Levesque, Byron Garner, Jerry Pekarek and Bob Lowder.
