The Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) led a trail crew back to work on a reroute started in the Cienega/Armijo Trails Improvement Project (CATIP) last December just before snowfall ended the season. The weather was warm but working conditions were still decent for June. The hike in was just under 0.8 miles to the work site.
Next trail session the crew should be able to complete the upper end of TC08. Connecting the ends of the new section will allow obliteration of some unsustainable user trail segments.
A crew of thirteen volunteers worked with Russell Berman, Cibola National Forest and Grasslands Resource Assistant - Trails, who helped lay out the intersections with other trails. The volunteers were Cleve Sharp. Byron Garner, Eric Russell, Jim Houle, Mark Grazier, Sim Cook, Don Carnicom, Claudia Bergsohn, Jenny Blackmore, Pat and Mike Madden, and Betsy and Bob Galloway.
To avoid a strike by the crew, all the FOSM trail tools will get badly needed sharpening and a few pick handles will be replaced. Nothing is worse than a dull tool! All pics in the attached by Betsy Galloway except as noted.
