Hello Everyone:

Today, August 12, 2019, the FOSM Trails Crew hiked Lower Switchback, Upper Switchback, Buried Cable, Gravel Pit and Rocky Point trails to remove three previously reported problem trees plus any other work that was found. A total of 8 fallen, protruding, hung-up or otherwise troublesome trees were removed along with two sections of tree roots which presented tripping hazards in the trail tread. This work was done with crosscut saws and other hand tools. Compared with some of the challenges faced earlier this season, this was a relatively simple and rather easy workday.

A major rain the previous night provided a pleasantly cool morning with high humidity. Early in the day, surrounding foliage was damp and all the trails remain very moist to muddy. After some rather hot summer days, the approach of autumn is making for much more pleasant hiking weather.

Today's crew consisted of Cliff Giles, Byron Garner, Rav Nicholson, Sim Cook, David McCreery, Bill Savage and Bob Lowder.
