ABSTRACT: La Madera/Sandia Peak Ski Area has had a huge impact on skiers, snowboarders and the development of the industry in New Mexico in general.  Sandia Peak is deemed by many as the "gateway" to skiing for many Albuquerque residents, and the source of many lifelong memories on the slopes.  Attendees will see rarely seen photos and learn about the unique history of the La Madera/Sandia Peak Ski Area.  Several of New Mexico's foremost ski Pioneers such as Nordhaus, Blake, Bainbridge,Totemoff, Pitcher and others, will be remembered.
